Explore Perth By Campervan

There are three distinct directions to travel from Perth on your campervan adventure, all providing very different experiences. Head north on this World Heritage Coastal Drive and you'll find epic coastlines all the way to Ningaloo Reef. But make sure you take the time to soak up the breathtaking Pinnacles en route to Cervantes, gasp in awe at the 400 million-year-old river gorges of Kalbarri National Park, meet the dolphins at Monkey Mia and swim with Whale Sharks in Coral Bay. For those pressed on time, the Indian Ocean Drive provides a highlight packed trip up to Kalbarri but without the driving km's, or for those keen to get the tyres dirty, try the Wool Wagon Pathway.

Heading south from Perth in your campervan drops you directly into Margaret River, WA's wine region. With over 120 world-class vineyards you're spoilt for choice in where you can sample the areas local tipples. Think laid back wineries, world-class food and pristine beaches - it's no wonder why this is such a popular place to relax and unwind.

If you've got a bit of extra time, continue on the South West Wine Trail into the ancient forests of Pemberton and soak up the fantastic coastal scenery on your way to Albany. If time allows, head all the way to Esperance, packed with stunning coastlines and an abundance of wildlife, including fur seals and sea eagles.

Head inland on the Gold Quest Trail from Perth to find your fortune at Kalgoorlie - uncover a history rich in gold prospecting where fortunes were made and dreams were crushed. Take the opportunity to don a safety hat and take a guided tour into the Super Pit, one of the largest cut mines on earth, before exploring the many other quaint mining towns all the way to Laverton.

Prefer a bit of romance and a slice of old Spain in the Australian great outdoors instead? Then we highly recommend the tranquil Avon Valley Weekender to York, Toodyay and New Norcia. Take in the serenity of Australia's only Monastic town, the opulent heritage of Western Australia's first inland settlement, and the Avon Valley's natural beauty, all within a two-hour drive from the city.

Popular Routes For Perth

Travelling at your own pace, you will uncover awe-inspiring sites around every bend as you set off in your campervan from Perth. But in which direction should you journey to first?

Heading north from Perth, take the Indian Ocean Drive to Kalbarri, through Cervantes, Dongara and Geraldton. Over an easy five-day itinerary, you will discover the rugged beauty this region is known for, transporting you from the cityscape of Perth to someplace much wilder.

From there, you can head inland on the Wool Wagon Pathway to traverse Western Australia’s legendary sheep and wool country, journeying through wild expanses of spectacular Australian outback before arriving on the Ningaloo Coast.

After taking time to explore Ningaloo Reef’s underwater paradise, you can loop back towards Perth on the Coral Coast Highway. Hugging the coastline, this itinerary allows you to experience more of this entrancing region, taking in Monkey Mia, Hutt Lagoon’s breathtaking pink lake and the astounding Pinnacles Desert.

Travelling inland from Perth, you could take a few nights to explore the great outdoors within the Avon Valley. Or, to uncover more of Australia’s glorious golden outback, opt for the Gold Quest Trail taking you through Kalgoorlie and Lake Ballard to Laverton.

Journeying south, a world of tantalising temptation awaits on the South West Edge Wine & Exploration Trail. Travelling through the world-famous wine region of Margaret River, you will then drive on to Pemberton, from where you can continue your journey on towards the idyllic wonderland of Esperance on the South West Edge.
