What to Expect at Pickup

You can get to the branch from the airport on your day of pick-up with our free transfer bus service – visit your branch location page for more information. We recommend you allow between one and two hours at the branch at least to pick up your campervan. Remember, our branches open at 8am and close at 4.30pm.

You’ll need to show us your driver's licence (and official translation or international licence if non-English licence – these need to be in English). It’s the law to carry your driver's licence (and English translation, if required) at all times when driving in New Zealand.

If you have a foreign licence in a language other than English, please ensure

  • It is current
  • appropriate for a full-size motor vehicle (not restricted or learner)
  • and you must also present an accredited English translation.

The translation must be provided by a NZ Transport Agency authorised translation service or a diplomatic representative at a high commission, embassy or consulate, or the authority that issued your overseas licence (an International Driving Permit may be acceptable as a translation if in English). We can arrange a translation for you at the branch but it will cost you NZ$58 and will create delays with your pick up process. To find an authorised translation service click here.

We recommend you use our self check-in tool before you arrive. This will give you a chance to check out the rental agreements, watch a safe driving video and enter all driver details pre-arrival!

In the branch, you also need to let us take a credit card authority, so make sure you have these at the ready. Remember additional drivers are subject to extra charges (unless you choose the Britz Inclusive Pack) and we do need the licence details for every person planning to take a shot behind the wheel during the trip.

You’ll need understand your liability options and what is included in your daily vehicle rate. Important Note: Be aware that without the addition of the Inclusive Pack or Liability Reduction Option, you are liable for damage to your motorhome or any third party property on your hire. Any costs incurred will be calculated and recovered at end of the hire, regardless of any independent cover you may have.

Be sure you chat to your Local Host about road user charges. Road user charges (RUC) means that anyone using New Zealand's roads contributes towards their upkeep. Most road users pay levies when they buy fuel. Others, such as motorhomes and trucks pay through road user charges. You can buy the Express Return Pack which will include these costs in your drop off.

Remember to let your bank know you are travelling, as this can help you to avoid credit card issues. Credit card surcharges will apply 3.1% for Visa or MasterCard and 4.6% for American Express. Our transactions are conducted in New Zealand dollars. Please ask your Local Host for more information on pick-up.

You will then get to meet your vehicle with a show-through by one of our Local Hosts; they will tell you all the ins and outs of making the most of your motorhome. There is a lot to take in and we want you to feel comfortable, confident and safe in your vehicle, so take some time to familiarise yourself and ask any questions of our crew before you depart.
