Day 1
Auckland to Waitomo

Distance 190km - Driving Time 2.5 hours

Roll out of Auckland and slip into green Waikato country toward limestone hills and native forest. Today is about easing into the road trip rhythm and meeting the glowworm galaxies of Waitomo. 

  

Where to stop between Auckland and Waitomo

Day 9
Wellington to Picton

Today you swap wheels for water. Check in for the Cook Strait crossing, then settle in on deck for views of rugged headlands, open sea and the sheltered coves of Queen Charlotte Sound as you glide into Picton.

Hanmer Springs to Christchurch

Cromwell
