Road Restrictions

Share

Whilst we are all for adventure and getting out to explore, there are a few roads that we don’t allow our campers to travel on, for safety reasons.

2WD Camper Road Restrictions

2WD Campervans can only be driven on sealed / bitumen roads.

The only exception to this are well-maintained access roads of less than 12 kilometres to recognised campgrounds, major tourist attractions and well-maintained, recognised roads on Kangaroo Island (South Australia). Should you wish to travel on an unsealed road that is greater than 12 kilometres in length to access a recognised campground, special permission can be arranged pending road conditions, weather and distance. Please contact your Booking Host to discuss.

Any 2WD vehicles found travelling on these roads will automatically void any liability option and will be liable for all costs incurred repairing the vehicle. We reserve the right at sole discretion to restrict movement in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.

Should you breach the road restriction rules by taking a 2WD vehicle on an unsealed road or restricted road, a fee of $300 on each occasion that is identified will apply.

4WD Camper Road Restrictions

4WD vehicles can be driven on recognised sealed tracks.

Written permission is required from Britz to travel into the areas listed below:

  • Simpson Desert
  • Strzelecki Track
  • Gunbarrel Highway
  • Cape York (between the months of December to May)
  • The Bungle Bungles
  • Oodnadatta Track
  • Tanami Track
  • Gibb River Road
  • Plenty Highway
  • Birdsville Track
  • Burke Development Road (from Chillagoe to Normanton)
  • Savannah Way (from Normanton to Borroloola)
  • Finke Road (between Alice Springs and Oodnadatta)
  • Central Arnhem Road
  • Arnhem Land
  • Chambers Pillar

In addition, we remind you that Britz 4WD vehicles are NOT permitted in the following areas under any circumstance:

  • The Canning Stock Route
  • The old Telegraph Track section of the road to Cape York (however the bypass is permissible providing permission is provided)
  • The Old Gunbarrel Highway
  • Boggy Hole (Finke Gorge National Park)
  • Fraser Island
  • The Lost City in Litchfield Park
  • Old South Road from Maryvale to Finke
  • Ghan Heritage Road (from Titjkala to Finke)

You are responsible for all damage if travelling on these roads.

Should you breach the road restriction rules by taking a 4WD vehicle on a restricted road, a fee of $300 on each occasion that is identified will apply.
