Things to bring from home

Packing for a campervan holiday is much like packing for any overseas holiday, you want to pack as light as possible (so you can bring as much home with you as possible!). Here are some things you might like to consider when packing your bags:

  • Pack everything into a soft bag, rather than a large suitcase to give yourself lots of room in the camper
  • Anything from home you want to bring with you – your favourite pillow or mug, ipod etc...
  • Maps and guidebooks
  • Torch and batteries
  • Weather-proof layers, so you're not stuck inside on rainy days
  • Insect repellent
  • Sunscreen – this is particularly important in summer as the sun can be very strong in this part of the world
  • Bushwalking gear, such as a hat that provides decent coverage, a day pack, water bottle, and comfy walking shoes
  • Any personal medical supplies
  • Copies of tickets, vehicle and travel insurance papers
  • Camera, spare memory card, and charger (if you don't use your phone to take photographs)
  • Entertainment, such as books and/or board games or playing cards

Things to buy when you arrive

So you've arrived and picked up your campervan, now what? You'll want to head to a local supermarket and pick up some supplies for the first couple of days.

  • There's no better feeling than kicking back with a nice hot cup of tea or coffee, so first things first – you'll want to stock up on these supplies
  • Something nice and easy for dinner – some pasta, and a can of tomatoes can be a nice easy first night dinner, or maybe a quick steak and salad is more to your liking
  • Bread and something yummy to go with it for a quick and easy lunch on the go
  • Driving snacks – lollies, carrot sticks, potato chips – whatever it is you like to munch on while out on the road
  • Something to drink – maybe a glass of wine or beer for the evenings, water to keep hydrated on walks or some orange juice to go with your breakfast
  • Bacon and eggs or something yummy to set you up with a hearty breakfast for the day
  • Anything extra you might need for your trip

If you are given plastic bags at the supermarket these can make great rubbish bags for your journey or to place wet beach clothes in until you have a chance to wash them. Please ensure you dispose of all rubbish responsibly.

Now you're all set up to enjoy an amazing holiday in your home on wheels, so head out on the open road and enjoy what is sure to be an unforgettable holiday.
