The Grand Pacific Drive from Sydney to Jervis Bay and back again is bursting with natural beauty, stunning coastlines and gorgeous countryside. Throughout this blog we are going to outline our favourite stops along the Grand Pacific Highway to help you to create the best Grand Pacific Drive itinerary for your road trip in a motorhome or campervan.

Day 1
Sydney to Stanwell Tops

Distance 55km - Driving Time 1 hour

The first stop from Sydney, on the Grand Pacific Drive, is Stanwell Tops. The journey takes around an hour from central Sydney, and the route is dotted with stunning coastal views and lush greenery.

Once you arrive, there's plenty to do. Head to the beach for a relaxing swim and some time in the sunshine, or take a stroll along the scenic coastline. If you're interested in exploring some local culture, be sure to check out the Hindu Sri Venkateswara Temple in Helensburgh. This stunning temple boasts intricate architecture and peaceful grounds, making it the perfect spot for a tranquil afternoon.

For animal lovers, Symbio Wildlife Park is definitely worth a visit. Here, you can say hello to kangaroos, tigers, koalas, and so much more. It's also an ideal spot for families, as there are plenty of interactive experiences and educational programs to enjoy.

When it comes to places to stay, Bulli Beach Tourist Park is a great option for your Britz campervan. This beachfront campground offers plenty of amenities, including a pool, playground, and BBQ facilities, and is the perfect place to unwind after a long day of exploring the sights of Stanwell Tops.

Day 2
Stanwell Tops to Austinmer

Distance 14km - Driving Time 20 Minutes

An easy and picturesque 14 km drive south from Stanwell Top will have you at Austinmer. We suggest hopping onto the Lawrence Hargrave Drive and head south to cross the iconic Sea Cliff Bridge. The stunning views of the shimmering sea and towering cliffs will make this stretch of the drive one to remember. As you keep cruising along, you’ll witness one of Australia's most scenic coastlines until you arrive in Austinmer, located just north of Wollongong.

While in Austinmer, be sure to check out some of the top attractions like Austinmer Beach, which offers fantastic swimming, surfing, and picnicking opportunities. For some gorgeous views, head over to Brickyard Point, where you'll be treated to panoramic views of the ocean and coastline. For nature lovers, Glastonbury Gardens is a must-visit spot. Take a stroll through the lush gardens and marvel at the stunning plants and flowers on display. For those seeking a bit of adventure, the Illawarra Escarpment offers hiking trails with incredible views of the surrounding landscape.

Coledale Beach Camping Reserve is our go-to when visiting this area as it offers affordable campsites all within a beautiful natural setting.

Day 3
Austinmer to Wollongong

Distance 15km - Driving Time 25 Minutes

From Austinmer it’s onto the next stop, Wollongong! To get here you cruise along the Grand Pacific Drive for roughly 15 km until you’ve reached the bustling coastal town of Wollongong.

Once you're in Wollongong, there are plenty of things to keep you entertained. For kids, the Science Centre and Planetarium is a must-visit, while the Buddhist Nan Tien Temple, the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, offers a peaceful escape. If you're a nature lover, you'll enjoy strolling through the Botanic Gardens and admiring the diverse flora and fauna. And for the more adventurous types, the Hangdog Climbing Gym offers a thrilling rock-climbing experience.

When it comes to the perfect place to park up your Britz campervan hire, you can’t go wrong with the Wollongong City Tourist Park. With a peaceful setting, affordable rates and good amenities, this will be a wonderful spot to retreat to after a day exploring the area.

Day 4
Wollongong to Shellharbour

Distance 20km - Driving Time 20 Minutes

The drive from Wollongong to the next spot, Shellharbour, is about a 20-minute drive along the coast, which means you'll get some beautiful ocean views along the way.

Once you get to Shellharbour there are so many great activities and experiences to be had. Killalea Reserve is a must-visit spot, especially if you're into surfing or just want to enjoy some beautiful beaches. The Reserve has two beaches that are both great for surfing, swimming, and just hanging out. There are also some great walking trails in the area if you want to stretch your legs and enjoy some time in nature.

Bass Point Reserve is a beautiful coastal reserve that's perfect for bushwalking, birdwatching, and fishing. There are also some great spots for snorkelling for those who want to explore the underwater world. Another great spot to check out is Bushrangers Bay, which is located within the Bass Point Reserve. It's a 20 minute walk to a secluded bay with crystal clear water and great snorkelling opportunities!

 

Finally, when it comes to where to stay, we highly recommend the NRMA Shellharbour Beachside Holiday Park. It's located right on the beach, so you'll have easy access to the sand and surf. Plus, they have great campsites for your Britz motorhome.

Day 5
Shellharbour to Jamberoo

Distance 15km - Driving Time 20 Minutes

The drive from Shellharbour to Jamberoo is next on the travel itinerary and promises a picturesque coastal drive with scenic spots and lookout points along the way.

 

Once you arrive in Jamberoo, the fun really begins! Jamberoo Action Park is a must-visit destination with an array of thrilling waterslides, a manmade beach, and even a bobsled that takes you down from the mountain top. If you're looking for something a little more leisurely, you can always hop on the chairlift and take in the stunning views of the valley.

 

After a day of adventure, you'll need a place to rest your head. We recommend Missingham Creek Campsite, which is conveniently located close to Jamberoo Action Park. You'll find ample space for your motorhome, and peaceful surroundings that will help you relax and recharge for another day of exploring.

Day 6
Jamberoo to Kiama

Distance 10km - Driving Time 13 Minutes

From Jamberoo it’s them onto Kiama which will be a spectacular scenic drive along winding roads through lush greenery and past rolling hills, all before reaching the beautiful coastal town of Kiama.

When in Kiama, make sure to visit the Kiama Blowhole, a natural rock formation that shoots water more than 20 meters into the air! The blowhole is a must-see attraction and a popular spot that is sure to leave you in awe. Don't forget to also check out the Kiama Lighthouse, which offers stunning views of the ocean and the coastline. If you're looking to spend some time in the sun, Kiama Beach is a great spot for fishing, swimming, and surfing, and for those who love hiking, the Kiama Coastal Walk offers picturesque views of the craggy headlands and stunning coastline.

Day 7
Kiama to Jervis Bay

Distance 75km - Driving Time 1 Hour

The next day it’s onto Jervis Bay which promises to be a lovely scenic drive filled with beautiful coastal views and charming towns like Gerringong and Berry with cute cafes to refuel at along the way.

Once you reach Jervis Bay, there are plenty of activities to keep you entertained, including Blenheim Beach which is a must-visit! This stunning white sand beach is known for its crystal clear waters and is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, or simply taking a leisurely stroll. For a unique experience, consider trying the Bush-to-Beach tour, which takes you on a guided hike through the beautiful bushland surrounding Jervis Bay, before leading you to a secluded beach for a swim in the crystal clear waters!

Day 8
Jervis Bay to Sydney

Distance 190km - Driving Time 3 Hours

The drive back to Sydney from Jervis Bay will take around three hours and promises to be a beautiful drive along picturesque coastline, rolling countryside and charming towns to stop in and refuel at. If you’re looking for a great half way spot for lunch then you can stop in again at Kiama for some well-earned fish and chips by the waterside. Or stop in to one of the country towns such as Berry to wander the shops and enjoy a delicious lunch before continuing on.

Once you get to Sydney you can drop your Britz camper off at the Britz Sydney branch. The staff there are friendly and helpful, and they'll make sure you're all set before you head off on your next adventure.
